Using our model and Mut 22 coins the latest set of data2 available through the Madden website, we found a few players over which Madden and a strictly model-based approach appear to differ and the results are intriguing.

Incorporating human judgment into a rating system isn't always an issue. Daniel Sorensen is a good illustration. He's having a terrible year at his team, the Kansas City Chiefs, and it's been a contributing factor to their defense's surrender of 69.5 points over expected this season, which ranks 31st in the league. Sorensen's game has earned him an overall coverage grade at 42.2 out of 100 according to Pro Football Focus and an overall score of 35.5. Yet, despite his struggles Sorensen appears to be quick! Based on his on-field speed as measured by player tracking data, we'd expect a purely model-based speed score for Sorensen that is around 89, seven points higher than Madden's Week 9 score of 82. Perhaps the folks at EA aren't keen to be able to reward a player having a similar performance to Sorensen with a score that is high in a crucial area like speed rating, since it can have such a huge effect on gameplay. If that's true then it's difficult to blame them.

Other notable exceptions are Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill, who has the top speed score in all of Madden at 99. Hill certainly is quick, and we may be not entirely agreeing, but his career max speed of 22.8 mph puts him only fourth place in the league , since 2017.3 In addition, his current average weekly speed although very impressive, does not even make into the top fifty.

There are two Baltimore cheap madden coins Ravens teammates also make the list of slightly underrated speedsters. Lamar Jackson appears to be performing slower this year possibly due to persistent injury to his lower back. The average speed he reached per game of 19.4 miles per hour last season was almost a mile per hour faster than his speed this year. Madden isn't concerned, though. The 96 speed score Madden offers Lamar at the halfway point of the year is almost 11 points higher that his model-based score.4
