Ativan
(Lorazepam) works byenhancing the
effects of specific natural chemicals in the body (GABA). It belongs to the
benzodiazepines class of drugs. It works by improving
the outcomes of specific natural substances in the body (GABA).
GABA (neurotransmitter)
transmits messages between cells in different parts of the body. Increasing
GABA results in a tranquilizing effect that reduces
stress and anxiety.
Ativan is known
for having a rapid, immediate start (onset) of action. It begins to
work once you take it, but its peak effect occurs within one to one and half
hours.
Avoid consumption of alcohol. It
can result in dangerous side effects, or death
could occur.
Avoid driving a vehicle or
performing any hazardous activity until
you know this medicine's effect on you. Drowsiness or dizziness can
cause accidents, falls, or severe injuries.
Dizziness, drowsiness, headache,
loss of coordination, blurred vision, nausea, sexual ability or interest
changes, heartburn, constipation, or appetite change may occur. If any
of these effects are bothersome, persist, or gets worsen, tell your
doctor or pharmacist instantly.
Tell your medical healthcare
provider if you are dealing with any unlikely but severe side effects,
including:

Mental or mood
changes such as depression, hallucinations, suicidal
thoughts;

Vision changes;
●
Difficulty
talkingor slurred speech;

Rare side effects of this medicine
that may need urgent medical help include:

Seizures;

Shallow breathing;
or
●
The
yellow colorof eyes or skin
It is unlikely to have a severe
allergic reaction due to the use of Ativan. However, take
urgent medical help if you notice any signs of an allergic reaction,
including trouble breathing, rash, itching or swelling of your face, throat, or
tongue, or severe dizziness.
