Tips to Make Packing for a Move That Much Easier from Charly licker's blog

Moving is a stressful experience. Unfortunately, it’s a necessity that most of us have or will face in our lives. Moving comes with a new job, a new significant other, going away to school, finding your first home or apartment. Whatever your reason for moving to a new place, moving simply makes most of us feel frazzled. When your next move comes up, there are a few things to remember as you move your belongings from your current home to the new one.

It is possible to have to move in a hurry. Whether for a new job or to be closer to a sick loved one, we don’t always have that time to prepare. However, when you do get ample time to handle your next move start with one simple action: make a list. At first, it feels daunting because you will need to copy down anything and everything that has to be sold, packed up, or put in storage. But once you’ve created a comprehensive to-do list, bigger tasks are made into smaller, more digestible tasks. One good way to create a list is to go room to room so you have a complete understanding of what’s in that room and where it needs to do.

Declutter as you begin to pack. A good rule of thumb for decluttering is to throw out or give away anything that you haven’t used, or even looked at, in 12 months. There are exceptions, such as old photos and sentimental items. But, when you toss out clothes, household items, decor, or even cups and plates that you can’t see yourself using anymore, get rid of it. You don’t need to bring things that you need, or want, into your new place.

If your budget allows, hire a professional moving company. Many people call their friend with a truck or van, but that isn’t something we all have at our disposal. A professional moving company may be an extra expense, but it saves you a lot of time and effort in getting things packed and ready to move. A moving company may even help you unpack and re-assemble items, such as furniture, at your new home if you request these services.

While moving isn’t anyone’s favorite thing to do, you can certainly try a few things to make the process a bit easier. From making lists to recruiting your Dad to help, your next move doesn’t have to be a nightmare. Next time you have to search “San Francisco luxury homes at the Belvedere in Cow Hollow,” because, well, you have good taste, and prepare to move, follow a few simple tips to make the process easier.
