Consider Some Efficient Appliances to Help Save Money in an Apartment from Harry Baveja's blog

When you live in an apartment, you may not get a lot of say in the appliances that you get to use. You are going to be stuck with what the landlord gives you and what they have inside. But if you have a choice to go with something that is more inexpensive, then it may be a good option for you. Choosing an apartment that has efficient appliances, or considering adding some of your own if you plan to be there a long time, can do wonders for helping you get the most out of the apartment, while also making sure that your utility bill is as low as possible when you live there.

You will be able to do a number of different things to help. You can use LED light bulbs around the apartment when it is time to change out the lights in the apartment. These will save you a ton of money and can keep your energy costs low while you live there. If you find that the apartment has some appliances that were manufactured before 1997, they are probably not energy efficient and they could be making your utility bill higher than before.

You probably can’t switch out the appliances on your own. But you can talk to the landlord and see if it is possible for them to upgrade some of the older appliances. If they do agree to doing this, then ask that they are Energy Star certified so that they will last a long time and you will be able to really cut down on those bills each month.

If you have anything that is left plugged in throughout the apartment, then it is time to turn it off. You can turn off some of those holiday lights that you may like to leave on, as well as the phone chargers, the blender, coffee maker, blender, printer, TV and anything else that you like to leave plugged in and could be taking up some of the energy and the costs for you.
