The Best Golf Course Near Me to Enjoy the Game to its Fullest from Victoria Lucy's blog

When searching for the best golf course near me, it is important to choose a place that is suitable for your skill level. Patriot Hills offers a fair challenge to players of all levels and is one of the top public courses in NYC.

Mosholu is located within walking distance of the Woodlawn stop on the 4 train and offers a relaxing experience for beginners and experts alike.

1. Patriot Hills Golf Course

Patriot Hills is one of the golf club near me located in Stony Point, is an exceptional public course that’s unbiasedly open to players of all skill levels. Its beautiful backdrop, a relaxing atmosphere, and challenging holes make it a great choice for anyone looking to play golf in New York City. Its challenges range from fast greens to thick trees and unmowed berms.

Patriot Hill is a short drive from Manhattan and tumbles across dramatically rolling hills in the Ramapo Mountains with breathtaking views of the Hudson Valley below. Its 6,485 yard par 71 layout is a terrific challenge with elevated tees, plenty of interesting holes, and a good variety of lengths and elevations. The spooky and intriguing Patriot Hills is the only public course in New York to feature a hole running alongside the dilapidated abandoned Letchworth Village.

The best hole on the course is arguably the 10th, a stunning downhill one-shotter that plays to a generous green surrounded by a trio of bunkers and thick rough. The 158-yard 13th is also noteworthy and a welcome departure from the rest of the course’s mostly innocuous par threes. This hole is a beauty at the end of a long, difficult, yet enjoyable round and makes Patriot Hills a memorable experience.

2. Marine Park Golf Course

Golfers looking to play a great round at a challenging course should check out Marine Park Golf Course. This course is located in southern Brooklyn and features panoramic water views and country club quality greens and fairways. This is a terrific choice for regulars and visitors alike.

The course features four sets of tees to challenge players of all skill levels. The fairways and greens are made from bermuda grass and the entire course is beautifully maintained. The staff at Marine Park Golf Course is friendly and helpful and can offer tips and tricks for playing your best round.

Marine Park Golf Course is considered one of the better municipal courses in New York City. It feels less tired than most other NYC courses, thanks to its seaside location and links-like layout. The course also has good conditions and is a decent value for NYC rates.

One of the highlights at Marine Park is the 10th hole, a short, reachable par 5 that plays dead straight at 488 yards. Accuracy is key off the tee here as fescue-covered mounds line the right side all the way to a large, back-to-front sloping green.

3. Mosholu Golf Course

In the heart of New York City, Mosholu Golf Course is a 9-hole public golf course that balances difficulty with playability. The tees and greens are well-maintained, and the staff is always friendly. The course is easily accessible by subway and is ideal for golfers of all skill levels.

Founded in 1914 and located less than a mile from Van Cortlandt Park, Mosholu was one of the first municipal courses built in the country. Its original routing epitomized golf before enculturated standards, and in the 2000s, it underwent a full renovation by Stephen Kay and Doug Smith. Today, it offers breathtaking views of grassland and woodland while providing a welcoming environment for golfers of all skill levels.

Mosholu features a variety of great holes, but the best is the 277-yard 8th. The fairway is narrow and tree-lined, with a huge right swale interrupting the green’s back-to-front slope. The green is also a great example of a Biarritz design, with Raynor-style bunkers guarding the left and right sides.

During his time at Yale and working for Hanse Design, Brockner learned two simple principles that he would apply to Mosholu’s renovation: First, high-quality, interesting design does not have to cost more than the bland, boring alternative. Second, the best way to get beginners excited about the game is to expose them to it on a playing field that is cool and fun to play. At Mosholu, Brockner’s commitment to these principles is clear – just look at the smiles on players’ faces.

4. Westchester County Golf Courses

In addition to offering a spectacular landscape, Westchester County has a wealth of top golf courses for beginners and pros. For instance, the Hudson Hills Golf Course has a layout that combines large greens with challenging elevation changes for an unforgettable golf experience. This prestigious course is located in Hastings-On-Hudson and has unique residential offerings nearby, including homes for sale that range from the $800s to the $600s.

The Black Course at Bethpage State Park is another iconic public golf course that should be on every aficionado’s bucket list. While it may be difficult to get a tee time, once you do, you will be rewarded with one of the best, if not the greatest public course in metro NY.

Other notable public golf courses in the area include the aforementioned Westchester Country Club in Rye; the beautiful Quaker Ridge Golf Club in Scarsdale; and the classic A.W. Tillinghast designed North Salem Golf Club.

There are also six courses run by the county. Of these, the newest and most expensive is Hudson Hills. However, this course offers the best pace of play and has one of the best-conditioned fairways of all of the county courses. Dunwoodie is a short but difficult course that will stroke your ego, while Maple Moor has some drainage issues and can be difficult to get a tee-time on weekends.
