It may seem strange to invite characters, but it does mean that if they work on your island, they will be able to visit you. It also means that if they work on your island, they will be able to pay you a visit there. Maybe I should mention that if they work on your island, it is still permissible for them to visit the roosters, which I believe to be the case, but I'm not 100% certain of this.
