What Does It Mean to Terminate the Lease of My Apartment? from Dave Roberts's blog

You signed a lease at the beginning of your stay in a new apartment. This was an exciting time and you were likely ready to move in and make it your own home. But there was an end date on the apartment lease and as that date looms large, you may wonder what some of your choices are when it comes to that apartment. Some people choose to stay because moving can be a hassle and expensive, while others will decide that it is time to move on to a new place that they can call their own. If you fall into the last category, then you will need to talk with your landlord about terminating the lease.

If you have opted out of the idea of staying in your apartment past the end of your lease terms, this means that you do not need to do a lease renewal or a month to month rental agreement with the landlord. If this is the case for you, then the final option is to terminate the lease and find a new rental. Terminating your lease means that you will end things when the original lease is done and you will need to move out of your current place when it is all done. Keep in mind that ending your lease doesn’t mean that you are leaving on bad terms, just that you are ready to move somewhere else.

While some tenants will terminate their lease because there were some big rent increases or issues with the property, some will do it because they have to relocate for a job, or they are ready to purchase a home that will be their own. Maybe they are going from a studio or a one-bedroom apartment and now they will take on a roommate and need some more space. All of these are legitimate reasons to terminate your lease and consider moving into somewhere else along the way. Just make sure to discuss it with your landlord before you decide it is time to move out.

There is a lot to love about a studio apartment, but when you want to have a bit more space and privacy and you still want to maintain some of your affordability, then nothing is going to be better than choosing a one-bedroom apartment for you reeds.
