There are a handful of teams who would like to see a substantial increase in the cap particularly teams like the New Orleans Saints. Harold's inconsistent performance scares the hell out of me. With his measurements, he ought to have been a much better passer than what I saw on video. However, there were moments when he looked impressive in rushing the passer. He did have a decent power rush and, when he took the plunge to use it, it had a very successful time putting pressure on quarterback. Of obviously, I wouldn't anticipate a smaller edge rusher to use the bull rush as their most recognizable move, but in the event that it is effective then why wouldn't you continue doing it? !
Harold Also, he had a pretty good arm-over move, but it was not something he would use it often. When he did , he tends to at least beat the offensive lineman, even if they didn't get to the quarterback before throwing the ball. I have no idea why he didn't apply it more often, considering what his successes were with that technique.
A lot of times, Harold would just kind of hit the left tackle, and then get stuck on his block on passing plays. He might as well have had in a 4.9 for me as far as I'm concerned given how seldom the team he played with the speed rush. What's to be gained from being a really good athlete when you can't use your skill as a pass rusher but occasionally?
That was extremely frustrating to watch.
I kinda hate the fact that I saw Harold perform a few good moves in the past, and I started to wonder what he was doing that he wasn't using often. If he'd been able to, he'd been able to have a lot more sacks. However, he didn't. This is why it is possible that it is believed that he "only" had like 7.5 total sacks in the season. That's not a bad quantity, yet it certainly isn't a great one either.
It could have helped had he not missed this many tackles, and even a few sacks. The Louisville game alone, which he recorded two sacks, the dude simply missed three more tackles, one of which was another sack opportunity. This dude ought to be a skilled athlete , but what happens when it's clear that he won't get the ball?
That is worrisome.
I'm not even close to discussing Harold's less than stellar performance when he was running. I'm not ashamed to admit that every time, he got off the ball with ease and then kicked the blocker and completed the play. The majority of the time, the player was stoned in the line or was assaulted.
Nothing to like.
Harold has also given his edge to a running back on running plays a lot too many times in those five games. That simply won't work. I'm sure he's too light on the inside but his blocking could be better at subsequent levels. He'll need to figure out how to solve that issue quick. Some extra weight, some squats or improved technique is my solution, but for today, I'm imagining Harold trying to set the lead over College Football 25 level offensive tackles and tight ends is not an appealing sight.
There were times that Harold did some amazing play against the run. The problem is that I'd rather see that from top players. It's not just only once or twice that amazes me. It's consistently doing it every play after play that will bring me up. Harold displayed his skills in every sport against passes and against the run. But you can also catch any play in those five games where he would look like simply another player.
That's not what you want to hear.
The good news to Eli Harold is all of my issues in him are fixable. He already has solid passes rushes; he just has to make them more effective. He has shown that the ability to perform a decent job against the runner He just has to learn to be better and more consistent with his techniques. As he grows bigger and stronger in the College Football 25. that can help in the two areas. He's certainly physically fit enough to play an outside linebacker in the 3-4 and is also suitable defensive lineman so his adaptability will benefit him.
The issue is that he's not ready to play in the College Football right currently and might not be ready until a year or so. It's going be a long time for him to gain the kind of strength and weight he'll require to become a great player in the College Football 25. He'll eventually be able to be a really good player but the team who chooses him will need patience.
