As an occupational nurse of a textile factory, I will encounter such major health needs as respiratory problems, substance abuse, cancer, hypertension, and back injuries. All of them inflict a considerable damage to workers’ health and therefore, require certain protective measures. While conducting planning, an occupational nurse should consider primary, secondary, and tertiary levels of prevention with regard to the scarcity of resources.

Priority health care programs are designed to improve health outcomes, meet clients’ needs, and gain efficiencies. According to Nies and McEwen, the traditional evaluation and monitoring process requires the following decisions: (a) monitoring implementation of the response, (b) planning the response to the problem, (c) the identification of the problem, (d) assessing the effectiveness of the response, and (e) collecting and analyzing data. The scarcity of resources will encourage me to implement a systematic examination of workers first of all, because the early diagnosis may prevent the further development of diseases. Moreover, employees should be informed about the kinds of hazard they may face working in the factory. Thus, they should know that repetitive movements lead to muscle sprains and strains that affect the back. Exposure to chemicals may result in respiratory disorders, substance abuse, and cancer. Hypertension may become a result of noise that is inherent in this type of production.

Many discoveries reveal that the total elimination of hazards is not possible since workers are used to repeat awkward positions, forceful movements, lifting, pushing, or pulling of heavy objects, etc. In this regard, an occupational nurse should warn against such movements. Obviously, textile manufacturing is impossible without certain hazards; nevertheless, workers should be well-trained regarding the ways of resisting different health problems. To resolve this problem, I will involve engineers, technicians, social workers, and psychologists to help me. The research asserts that most accidents occur because of poorly designed working places or untidy working sets where workers are at risk of back injuries, fractures, lacerations, contusions, amputations, crushing injuries, eye injuries, and others.

Firstly, I will gather the information on the patient’s health problems and create a database that involves complaints and symptoms of the illness. Meanwhile, I will liaise with doctors, orderlies and others. The information obtained will assist me in making a nursing diagnosis and sending a patient consulting the doctor. Besides, I should decide what health professionals can help the patient. Secondary prevention may involve writing a plan and preparing patients for the necessary consultations. Tertiary prevention suggests the implementation of medical prescriptions, preparation for blood, urine, and other examinations, distribution of drugs, injections, etc.

Taking into consideration the scarcity of resources, I would be able to solve the most typical health needs, giving medications, measuring blood pressure, checking respirators, and performing other necessary actions. The first level of prevention will have the priority in my nursing practice in the textile factory. Although, my decision has both positive and negative implications, I am certain that the results will be rather optimistic. In particular, my intention is to address the first signs of the disease and maintain workers with primary protection. My health care program will be directed to the educational purposes that can prevent negative consequences in the working places that usually happens because of the lack of preventive measures in textile factories.

To summarize, major health needs of the clients working in a textile factory should become a great concern of an occupational nurse. It is necessary to decide which level of prevention has a priority due to the scarcity of resources. The role of a nurse may be very significant for textile factory workers in order to meet their health needs and give relevant information concerning possible health problems.
