Tired of critics raving about film festival titles that you haven’t yet had a chance to see? This holiday season will bring many of the year’s most acclaimed films to theaters and streaming, from Jane Campion’s “The Power of the Dog,” which will be available both ways, to the Thai director Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s “Memoria,” which is forgoing home viewing altogether. There will also be fresh takes on enduring classics of the stage: Steven Spielberg does “West Side Story,” while Joel Coen adapts Shakespeare in “The Tragedy of Macbeth.”

This is a highly select list of noteworthy films due out this season. Release dates are subject to change and reflect the latest information as of deadline. (Movies that have already opened in theaters but are coming soon to streaming — like “Passing,” “Red Notice” and “Violet” — aren’t included.)

Baldwin has been tweeting through it, posting alleged proof that an assistant director yelled “cold gun” on set and amplifying an Instagram post by costume designer Terese Magpale Davis, who wrote that the narrative of an unsafe Rust set “is bullshit” (Baldwin was also a producer on the film). That narrative, which includes the fact that a half-dozen crew members walked off the set just hours before Hutchins and Souza were shot, situates the tragedy within a larger framework of not just the presence of live rounds on Hollywood sets but of existing workplace schisms that have exploded into full-blown union strikes.

The defensiveness continued yesterday when the embattled star tweeted his proposed solution to the whole debacle which randomly turned into pro-cop propaganda. “Every film/TV set that uses guns, fake or otherwise, should have a police officer on set, hired by the production, to specifically monitor the weapons safely,” said Baldwin.

Not only is this simply a terrible idea as opposed to just using fake guns and making sure the people handling those guns are well-rested, and, more importantly, are actually well-trained, but it’s also an act of capitulation to right-wing outrage.

In a viral YouTube video circulating on Facebook and Twitter, a man with a brown suit jacket, wire-frame glasses and a neat, gray mustache emerges from behind the camera and takes a seat.

“Hello, this is Kevin Annett Eagle Strongvoice and it’s November the first,” he says. “I’ve just received a breaking news announcement.”

An arrest warrant for Pope Francis was issued by the “International Common Law Court of Justice,” Annett says in the Oct. 31 video, which accumulated more than 135,000 views within one week. He claims the court is promising amnesty and a $10,000 reward to anyone who can find and detain the pope.

The supposed warrant charges the pope with “personal complicity in child rape, torture and trafficking, ritual killing … and other crimes perpetrated by the Church of Rome.”

But trying to “detain” the pope will not earn a $10,000 reward. The International Common Law Court of Justice does not exist.
