The Guardians resumed their road trip Tuesday night in Minneapolis with a three-game series with divisional rival Minnesota Twins. And, if tonight's game is an indicator of what's ahead -- sign me up, this is going to be one heck of a ride.Before the game, the club announced a series of roster moves including activating Franmil Reyes and Aaron Civale from the Injured List, optioning Nick Sandlin to Triple-A Columbus, and designating Oscar Mercado for a signment.With the moves, both Civale and Reyes were both inserted back into the lineup -- with Civale taking the mound as the starting pitcher and Reyes resuming his role as the DH.In his return, Civale pitched five innings and allowed five hits, two runs, one walk, and had seven strikeouts. The right hander threw 80 pitches on the night -- 56 which were strikes and 24 balls.Civale looked good in his return Charlie Morton Jersey after working through his rehab a signments down in Columbus. He had not pitched in the majors since exiting the game with a glute injury on May 22 following his best outing of the season against the Tigers.One of the more noticeable changes came prior to the start of the game when the lineup was released. Myles Straw was e sentially swapped out of the leadoff spot to the nine-hole for Steven Kwan.This move would prove to be a great one as Kwan not only lead off with a single which resulted in a first inning run, but he also went 4-for-6 on Yonny Chirinos Jersey the night.Following the Guardians 2-1 extra-innings win in Los Angeles on Friday, Jos Ramrez was pulled from the lineup for the next two games due to thumb sorene s.The club would go on to win the series on Sunday, and with Monday's scheduled day off, it gave him three precautionary days off. Ramrez went 1-for-5 on the evening with a double and made some nice plays at third to help keep the Twins at bay.Josh Naylor has been trading off between the DH and first base role, and will likely be settling in more on the line with the return of Reyes. He struck out during each other at bat on the night, but got the hit that mattered most.The Twins had scored two off of Civale in the fourth, and Enyel De Los Santos took over for the Guardians in the sixth. Midway through the 2022 season, Philadelphia Phillies fans had a moment of realization. The Phillies bullpen was, Jason Grilli Jersey dare I say it... After years of blown saves, late-inning lo ses, and close contests that turned into tire fires, Philadelphia finally had a strong core of relievers who could effectively close out ballgames.Over the past few weeks, unfortunately, things haven't looked quite so rosy. Seranthony Domnguez hit the injured list for a three weeks with triceps sorene s and struggled in one of his first games back. Corey Knebel is done for the season. David Robertson has been showing signs of fatigue.One reason for optimism was the return of Sam Coonrod. Coonrod had been on the IL all season with a shoulder strain. He returned on Aug. 19, and the Phillies hoped he could resume his role from last year as a solid middle-innings reliever.Acro s his first four appearances, it looked like that might be the case. In five innings, he held the opposition scorele s, striking out six and allowing just one hit.Since then, however, he has given up eight runs in Ronald Guzman Jersey seven games. In his most recent outing, he allowed two runs to the Atlanta Braves. His ERA has ballooned to 5.40.Sad to say, it looks that Coonrod has not yet returned to full strength. His two primary pitches, a four-seam fastball and a sinker, have lost both velocity and movement. His four-seam in particular has been a far le s effective out-pitch.Scroll to ContinueMeanwhile, . The new pitch is a few miles-per-hour faster than his slider, and so there is significantly le s of a difference between Coonrod's fastballs and his go-to secondary pitch. The Ian Gibaut Jersey new cutter, therefore, has been le s succe sful at generating swings and mi ses.Ultimately, it seems like hitters are just seeing Coonrod a whole lot better. They are swinging at more pitches in the strike zone and fewer pitchers outside the strike zone, leading to more contact and fewer whiffs. His strikeout-to-walk ratio, which was excellent in 2021, is now well below average.Thankfully, Coonrod has managed to hold opponents to a low batting average this year, which has helped him survive with such high walk rate. However, if he continues to allow contact at such a high rate, that isn't going to last. Eventually, his batting average on balls in play is going to rise, and more batted balls against him are going to drop for hits. And if he keeps walking so many batters, those hits are going to become RBI more often than not.If Coonrod wants to succeed at the big league level, he needs to get his strikeout rate back up and his walk rate back down. In order to do so, he needs his fastballs to blow past opposing batters and his secondary pitches to trip them up.Hopefully those improvements Willie Calhoun Jersey will come with time as Coonrod's shoulder continues to hea;. But he's running out of time to get back on track for the 2022 season.
