Application for Permanent Residence Card For identification and travel needs, the Canadian government issues physical PR Cards to its Permanent Residents. Therefore, in order to travel outside of Canada or to Canada via a commercial mode of transportation such as a train, bus, or airplane, only individuals who are already Canadian permanent residents require a PR card.
After becoming permanent residents, the new residents get their PR cards issued to their addresses.
Required Documents for Obtaining the PR CardIf you want to renew your card or make changes to some of the information on the card, you must provide your previous PR card.
For identification purposes, one of your passports, the identity card issued by the IRCC, or a passport from your home nation would be adequate. In some circumstances, the travel document or any other pertinent document issued by your home nation may also be sufficient.
Two identical photos of the applicant must also be submitted, and they must have been taken no more than six months ago.
Once you've determined which forms are appropriate for your situation, you can download the necessary forms from the official IRCC website. After gathering all the necessary paperwork, fill out the forms and submit them with your application. The application fee must then be paid, and you can go ahead and mail your application to the IRCC address through post.
After ApplyingIf your application is complete and delivered to them successfully, you will get an acknowledgement email from their end. However, your application will be sent back to your address if it is not complete.
Application Fee for Canadian PR cardThe usual application fee for the PR Card is 50 CAD, however you must pay an extra charge and book a separate appointment if you need to submit your biometrics. A single person pays 85 CAD for biometrics, while a family pays 170 CAD.
