Scientists at the University of Cambridge have created an AI tool that can detect dementia in its early stages and predict whether it will progress to Alzheimer’s disease. Dementia is a global challenge, impacting over 55 million people, with an annual global cost of around $820 billion. Research indicates that dementia cases could triple in the next 50 years. To develop this AI model, researchers studied over 400 participants in the U.S., using MRI scans to detect brain shrinkage.
